One-sided con&dence intervals in discrete distributions
نویسنده
چکیده
One-sided con&dence intervals in the binomial, negative binomial, and Poisson distributions are considered. It is shown that the standard Wald interval su4ers from a serious systematic bias in the coverage and so does the one-sided score interval. Alternative con&dence intervals with better performance are considered. The coverage and length properties of the con&dence intervals are compared through numerical and analytical calculations. Implications to hypothesis testing are also discussed. c © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Simultaneous Con dence Intervals for Linear Estimates of Linear Functionals
This note presents three ways of constructing simultaneous condence intervals for linear estimates of linear functionals in inverse problems, including \Backus-Gilbert" estimates. Simultaneous con dence intervals are needed to compare estimates, for example, to nd spatial variations in a distributed parameter. The notion of simultaneous con dence intervals is introduced using coin tossing as an...
متن کاملComparisons of Approximate Con dence Interval Procedures for Type I Censored Data
This paper compares di erent procedures to compute con dence intervals for parameters and quantiles of the Weibull, lognormal, and similar log-location-scale distributions from Type I censored data that typically arise from life test experiments. The procedures can be classi ed into three groups. The rst group contains procedures based on the commonlyused normal approximation for the distributi...
متن کاملA User's Guide to RECIPE: A FORTRAN Program for Determining One-Sided Tolerance Limits for Mixed Models With Two Components
This document provides guidance to users of the computer program RECIPE (REGression Con dence Intervals on PErcentiles). This program can provide approximate one-sided tolerance limits (or, equivalently, con dence intervals on percentiles) for a wide range of situations where one is able to assume a normal probability model. Arbitrary regression models with or without a random e ect can be anal...
متن کاملInference on a Structural Parameter in Instrumental Variables Regression with Weak Instruments
In this paper we consider the problem of making inference on a structural parameter in instrumental variables regression when the instruments are only weakly correlated with the endogenous explanatory variables. Adopting a local-to-zero assumption as in Staiger and Stock (1994) on the coe cients of the instruments in the rst stage equation, the asymptotic distributions of various test statistic...
متن کاملConstrained Maximum Likelihood
Constrained Maximum Likelihood (CML) is a new software module developed at Aptech Systems for the generation of maximum likelihood estimates of statistical models with general constraints on parameters. These constraints can be linear or nonlinear, equality or inequality. The software uses the Sequential Quadratic Programming method with various descent algorithms to iterate from a given starti...
